STYRENE BUTADIENE RUBBER (SBR)

Grades are available in cold and hot polymerized, dry, and oil-extended forms.

ABOUT SBR

Styrene-butadiene rubber is a synthetic rubber obtained from the copolymerization of styrene and butadiene monomers. It has good wear resistance and aging stability, and can be further enhanced by the addition of fillers. The styrene/butadiene ratio affects these properties of the polymer; rubbers with a higher styrene content are harder and less flexible.
SBR rubber was initially designed as a synthetic alternative to natural rubber; for this reason, both materials share many characteristics. However, SBR rubber has a slight advantage. SBR rubber offers superior resistance to ozone and enhanced temperature properties.
Due to its properties, SBR is generally used to manufacture tires (often in combination with natural rubber), shoe soles, gaskets, and coated papers. Contact us today to learn about nitrile (NBR)/PVC and other polymer products.
